The Second Session of India-Georgia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific & Technological, Cultural and Educational Cooperation (IGC) and Fourth India-Georgia Foreign Office Consultations (FOC), were held in Tbilisi on 25-26 July 2016. The Indian delegation was led by H.E. Ms. Sujata Mehta, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, India. The Georgian delegation was led by H.E. Mr. David Jalagania, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Georgia.

At the IGC meeting, the current state of ongoing cooperation in diverse fields was reviewed. Special emphasis was made on further augmentation of bilateral trade and investment, expansion of cooperation in the fields of Information and Communication Technology, Science and Technology, Culture, Agriculture, Transport Tourism, Education and Energy Sector.

The two sides underscored the significance of the ICT as one of the promising areas of cooperation. The Georgian side presented the innovative model of Public Service Halls with a visit of Indian delegation to Tbilisi Justice House. The Indian side appreciated the model and proposed setting up of India-Georgia Centre of Excellence in ICT in Georgia.  Other major issues discussed are exploring possibilities of cooperation in agricultural machinery, participation of more Indians companies in Energy Sector, exchanging information on tourism and conclusion of Air Service Agreement for direct flights and extensive engagement in education collaboration.

During the visit, the leader of delegation H.E. Ms. Sujata Mehta met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia H.E. Mr. Mikheil Janelidze and discussed bilateral issues. She addressed the Ambassadors of Georgia to various countries at their annual Ambassadorial meeting held in Tbilisi on July 26th.  The Indian delegation also attended inauguration of ‘Mahatma Gandhi Peace and Nonviolence International Conference” on July 25th and Secretary (West) addressed the distinguished guests, delegates for the conference and members of Mahatma Gandhi Foundation, Georgia.
